👨👩👧👦 I chose to read this on purpose, after last week’s “optimize for kindness” article. Well, they go so well together. This one focus on two great schools of Chinese philosophy, Confucianism and Daoism, and it does a better job in describing what is really the alternative to defining “success” as money + good grades. Also, these Psyche articles are organized in a way that is a pleasure to consume.

In short: identify what is needed to convince you, come up with alternative paths, know what you prize the most, validate what you think is a given, and predict negative scenarios.
🧠 “A good rule of thumb: Before deciding between two options, force yourself to identify at least three more. One study found that, when forced to identify at least one additional option, 20% of participants ended up choosing one of the new options. This was an option that previously had not even been considered! Additionally, this subset of participants reported significantly higher levels of satisfaction with their decision after the fact.”
